Are you keen to get your wee ones into the garden? I think it is really important for the next generation to understand where food comes from and the effort it takes to produce it.
I planted these strawberry plants late last summer, the kids were around while I was planting and they helped spread the straw but didn't pay the plants too much attention until the fruit started appearing over the last couple of weeks. Strawberries are really good for showing them where the fruit comes from as the middle of the flower resembles the berry at a very early stage.
So now they are waiting for the berries to turn red before picking them and taking more care so that the soccer ball doesn't go into this part of the garden.
